In this article I will show you how to easily fix file system error (-2147219195) in photos or any other store apps on windows 10.
The error will appear when you try to open any image file such as .jpg .png .gif and so on. The error will look like the one below.
Usually repairing the windows 10 photo app does not resolve this issue. The error usually appears after installing a windows 10 update.
What Causes The File System Error (-2147219195) On Windows 10
The most common cause for the File System Error (-2147219195) is an issue with the photos application which is built-in to windows 10. Another issue could be that the file you are trying to open has become corrupted.
To confirm which is causing the error message try to open another image file on your machine. If the file opens with no error message then we know the previous file has become corrupt.
If the second image opens and you see the error message again we know it is the photos application that is causing the issue.
How To Fix The File System Error (-2147219195) On Windows 10
Follow these steps to fix the File System Error (-2147219195) on windows 10
Step 1 : Update The Photos Application
There was a known issue with a windows 10 update which caused this error to appear. This issue has been fixed in the latest version of the photos application.
To update the photos application on your machine follow these steps
- Click start and type in windows store then left click on the application
- In the microsoft store application click on the update button top right
- Next click on update all, this will update all applications that have updates available
- Once the updates have been installed restart your machine
- Try to open an image again, If you still get the file system error (-2147219195) continue to the next step
Step 2 : Reinstall The Photos Application
If updating the photos application did fix the -2147219195 error we will now try to uninstall and re-install the photos application. To do this follow these steps.
- Click start and type in powershell, right click on windows powershell and select run as administrator
- If you get prompted by user account control click yes
- In the blue screen type in Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Remove-AppxPackage and hit enter
- If you see no errors like in the screenshot below this means it uninstalled the windows 10 photos application successfully
- Restart your machine
- Open the microsoft store application again from the start menu
- Search for microsoft photos
- Then click on get which will download and install the application
- Again open an image, if you still get an error continue to the next step
Step 3 : Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
Windows 10 has many built in troubleshooter applications which we can use to troubleshoot the Error (-2147219195). Windows 10 has an app dedicated to the Windows Store Apps which we can use.
This application should find and fix any issues we will be having with windows store apps. To use the windows store application troubleshooter tool to fix the -2147219195 error do the following
- Click on Start and select settings (Cog Icon)
- Click on Update & Security
- Click on Troubleshoot on the left hand side menu
- Scroll down and select Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
- Click on it and then Run the troubleshooter
- Follow the prompts
- Reboot your machine
- Try to install the feature / application from the windows store again
Step 4 : Run Windows Updates
I saw on a few forums that installing the latest windows 10 updates has fixed this issue. To update your windows 10 follow these steps
- Click start > Settings
- Next click on Update & Security
- Now click Windows Updates and then click Check for updates
- The latest windows updates will now automatically download and installed
- Reboot your machine
Again try to open the image file again and if you still get an error continue to the next step
Step 5 : Upgrade Windows 10 Feature Pack
I mentioned earlier I believe there is a bug in Windows 10 Home Version 1803 OS Build 17134.1 which causes this error.
I recommend to upgrade your windows 10 version to the latest version (Feature Update) To upgrade follow these steps
- Click start and click settings (Cog Icon)
- Click on update & Security
- Half way down the screen it should say “Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909” click on Download and install now
- Your machine will now download the feature update, expect this to take around 10-20 minutes.
- Once the download has completed it will start to install on your system.
- The whole process should take around 1 hour
- When the install has finished the status should change to Pending Restart, at this time click restart now
